November 12, 2013

Well I'm officially in my new area with my new companion! I'm serving in the Mountain View Ward, which is the original Denver 2nd ward (as in it was the 2nd ward in Denver created). I keep thinking I'm at home. I'm serving in Mountain View and my trainer is in Glenwood haha.
Tuesday was the longest day of my life. We drove from Craig to Rifle basically on ice the whole way! Then I waited around until 3:30 when the transfer train picked up all of us who were heading to Denver. We got to the mission office around 7:30. Once there I met my new companion! She got to spend the day with my MTC companion and her comp while waiting for me to arrive. Her name is Sister Fletcher and she's from Alaska. And what do you know, she has a Canadian connection: Her dad is from Lethbridge! And somehow she is related to the Balls too. That first night we got our new car (a 2014 Chevy Cruze) and headed home. We had to drive for half an hour on the freeway and I about died. I was so stressed! I've never driven in a big city before and it seemed everyone was loco crazy! Eventually we made it to where we live, which is with the Allreds! They live in the Clear Creek ward so we don't live in our area but it's not far away. They are empty-nesters and are the NICEST PEOPLE EVER. I seriously could not have asked for a better place to live. We have a bedroom and a bathroom and we share their kitchen with them. And we live in a very nice neighbourhood too! Which reminds me my new address is 3031 Oak Street Lakewood, CO 80215.
The next day we were able to go to the temple! We went to the 6:30 session. It was awesome and I felt such peace there. I was and am still pretty stressed at being in this new area and going to the temple really helped. The temple is quite far away so we had to drive on the crazy roads again. Later in the day we realized we didn't have some of the things we need so we had to drive back tot he mission office, meaning more crazy freeway drivers.
The first week we tried to meet as many ward members as possible and THEY ARE AWESOME. Seriously we have met some of the best people ever! One night we went to a mansion to meet Sister Annette Tilleman-Dick. I call her American royalty. Her whole family has been involved in politics. She has 10 kids. She homeschooled them all and the youngest is 16 and is in his second year of university! Say what? Also when we were there, she had the daughter of the Nigerian Ambassador to the US visiting us as well. Just an ordinary day in her house!
My companion is awesome! She is so obedient and so eager! She is the reason why the age was changed. We have been able to go running in the morning too which is fun for me! It's so nice out here. I left Steamboat just in time. Apparently they have three feet of snow right now!
Opening an area has been kind of stressful for me haha. We have 2 investigators though! Both of them are old ladies. I love old people!
On Sunday we had the privilege of talking in our ward! The Elders and our Ward Mission Leader spoke too. The ward is very eclectic and friendly! I'm really excited to know them better!
Last night one of our appointments in the old folks home fell through but we were able to talk more with the two members who had come with us who live there as well. Brother Vigil is over 70 and has been baptized for 3 years. He grew up Catholic and then one day after his divorce some sister missionaries knocked on his door. He said they wouldn't stop. And the reason he was baptized was their "stick-to-it-iveness." It was exactly what Sister Fletcher and I needed to hear! Though we don't have a lot going yet the Lord is aware of us and He wants to help us!

Hope you all had a great week!

Sister Moser and I at transfers. Yay for trainers!

November 4.2013

I am being transferred! And i don't know where to! Also I am training a new missionary! It's all so surreal. I really don't want to leave Steamboat but sadly my time and season here has ended. We got the call from president Thursday night and I really haven't focused on much since. I hate goodbyes so I tried to just suppress the fact that I was leaving. But Sister Muhme let the cat out of the bag (that was for you Chloe in honour of national cat day last tuesday) on Sunday during testimony meeting and I feel like once something's been said over the pulpit it's pretty much a done deal. I got some good pictures out of the fact that I am leaving though so be excited.
The biggest change I have seen in myself over the past 12 weeks is my ability to love and care. I used to think showing emotion meant I was weak. But it really just means I'm human! I love the people here so much and I am so excited to return! Fred told me I can come back and stay at his house any time I want, even if I have 6 kids haha. On Sunday we got to hear some good stories from Fred. Growing up he had a pet seal, beaver, and skunk. What a guy!
I felt guilty about all the things I could've done to help the area but didn't. I prayed and I know the Lord accepted what I did accomplish here with His help, although I may feel like I didn't do much.
On Saturday we drove to Grand Junction for a training meeting. I just really love President and Sister Murdock. I learn so much from them. I have been entrusted with a really sacred responsibility because the habits my new missionary makes in her first couple transfers will set the tone for her entire mission. I am praying that I can set her up for success!
This week was slower than most. Sister Tew was sick and needed to recover so I got some time to really ponder about the missionary I am right now and the missionary the Lord wants me to be. I have a lot of things to work on!
I don't have a lot of time as I have to go pack and get ready for all the crazy that is coming my way this week.
